The day Zayn left One Direction.

17:29     I’m reading fanfiction on my tablet, eating dinner.

17:30     A notification alerts me that One Direction have tweeted something. “One Direction statement”, I read, followed by a link to their Facebook page. My blood runs cold at those words, like I know something big is about to change. I click the link. It takes three very long seconds to load the page and my heart is racing. “After five incredible years Zayn Malik has decided to leave One Direction.” My heart stops, I throw my tablet on the sofa and run to my bedroom to get my laptop, tears already streaming. With trembling fingers, I go to the Facebook post again. I read the text, skipping parts because I'm shaking and can’t understand what is happening.

17:31     I tweet the first of a long list of tweets. “No.” Because that’s all that my brain can manage right now.

17:32     Texting my friend with the bad news, wishing I could add a “just joking, early April fool’s!”

17:33     Back to the statement, reading it over and over again until all the words have sunk in.

17:35     My heart feels like it’s been ripped out of my chest and I can’t breathe properly.

17:38     I tweet a picture of Zayn in Belgium. It hurts unbelievably much to realise he won’t be there in June. I can’t picture four of them performing, know the pain will come back full force the second they come on stage.

17:42     I DM a friend I met through One Direction. She doesn’t answer, doesn’t know it yet.

17:45     A journalist contacts me. On Monday, he’d asked me what I thought of the rumours about Zayn leaving One Direction. I told him I didn’t believe them. It seems so odd now.

18:08     My friend DMs back. The crying gets more intense again.

18:12     Looking through pictures of Zayn performing at OTRA. I feel so proud of him, always do.

18:25     Interview on the phone, a newspaper/magazine that asks for a reaction. First question: “how do you feel?” – I can’t answer for a while, tears blocking my throat. The entire conversation is a mix of tears and smiles. It hurts, saying it out loud, but I feel relieved afterwards.

18:32     The interview is finished. The journalist tells me to stay strong, “don’t worry too much”. I'm crying harder again.

18:45     I open the map of videos I have from my concert. I can’t watch. I feel like I need to do something – make a video, edit a picture, write a story, as long as I can put my feelings into something.

19:02     My eyes sting. I already know I'm not going to get much sleep tonight.

19:15     I watch the news. Half of me hopes they’ll mention Zayn, half of me knows I can’t handle it. They don’t mention him (or I missed it). It feels sort of nice to be focused on something else for a while, realise that there are other problems in the world. But it still hurts.

19:36     I'm mentally debating whether or not I'm going to call my mum.

19:38     I don’t call her. I can’t talk about it, don’t want her to hear me cry like a baby. Don’t want her to be worried about me. I'm fine. I can handle this. A broken heart doesn’t kill you.

19:48     I leave my bedroom, back to the living room. I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror – bloodshot eyes and wet cheeks.

19:49     The food has gone cold. I'm not hungry anymore. I start writing this blogpost.

19:50     My head starts pounding, a headache caused by all the crying. I know I need to drink to make it go away, but the bottle is just out of reach and I don’t have the strength to grab it. The pain distracts me. I embrace it.

20:24     My head, my throat, my lungs, everything hurts, but I feel numb. Today is the day 1/5 of my world collapsed and I'm scared for the following days.

20:27     Scared, but also hopeful. Hopeful that Zayn will be happy again. Hopeful that ‘One Direction’ will exist for a little longer. Hopeful that I'll be fine, we’ll be fine. Hopeful that one day, I'll be able to look back on this day, smiling, thinking “look how upset we were, and look where we are now – it all worked out so well.”

1D Theme Park

What is the 1D Theme Park?
The One Direction boys are taking over the theme parks Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure on November 17th (Monday) and 18th (Tuesday). These theme parks are located in Orlando, Florida (yes, USA).

What will happen?
The boys will do 2 exclusive concerts, you'll have the chance to meet the boys and there'll be side animation throughout the parks, such as a 1D Photo Booth, 1D karaoke bar and a Superstar Parade (whatever that may be).

How can I get there?
Each country gets to send a couple of fans. For Belgium, one lucky winner is allowed to go and take one friend and one adult (like a parent). If you're an adult yourself, I believe you can just take 2 friends.
MNM (Flemish radio station) will be giving away the ticket this weekend.

What's happening on MNM?
Starting this Friday (October 3rd) from 13:00 and continuing the entire weekend, you'll be able to win tickets for an exclusive VIP screening of the Where We Are movie in Utopolis Mechelen.
If you win tickets for that event and go to the screening, you'll be able to win the tickets to go to the theme park. What you'll have to do at the cinema has not been announced; it might be a quiz, several little games, ... Wait and see.
Attention! Just because you win tickets for the VIP screening does NOT automatically mean you are going to the US! You have to win a SECOND competition.

I'm from Wallonia, what do I do?
First of all, you can listen to MNM here.
Second, I will try and help you by tweeting what you have to do to win the tickets for the VIP screening.
Please be warned the chances of you winning if you don't speak Dutch are low. I hate to say it, but Flemish fans have a much, MUCH bigger chance. I'm really sorry for that :(

Please note
You will miss school if you win. Definitely Monday and Tuesday, but probably also Wednesday due to flight times.
The VIP hall in Mechelen has 50 seats, so I think (but I'm not sure) there will be 50 winners for the movie tickets.

Massive meet-up

A few days ago, someone tweeted me about a project 2 Belgian Directioners were setting up. At first I was a bit hesitant; there are so many people that try to organise things, and more than half of the time these plans get cancelled. However, as I read the entire Facebook post, I realised that these girls are very determined to make their plan work.

The plan: filming videos for 20 (twenty!) of the boys' songs (all of their singles and a few extra's). For some of the songs, there is an official video, which will be copied as much as possible. For the other songs, brand new videos will be filmed. All 20 songs will be put on a DVD, which will, one way or another, find its way to the boys.

Filming for these videos will happen at no less than 8 locations. Oostende, Brugge, Gent, Aalst, Brussels, Antwerp. For Limburg and Wallonia, exact locations will be announced later.
Each person can go to maximum 2 meet-ups.

Normally, the meet-ups start at 14:00 and end around 18:00.
September 7th: Oostende
September 14: Gent
October 5th: Antwerp
October 12th: Brussels
October 19th: Limburg and Wallonia (exact locations to follow)
October 26th: Brugge
November 16th: Aalst

If you want to participate, send a mail to belgiandirectionersmeetup@outlook.com with the following information: name, address, phone number, your length, which meet-up you want to attent (max. 2), whether you dare to sing alone or not and what kind of voice you have (can you hit high notes or do you have a low voice or?).

For more information, read this Facebook post or join the Facebook group.

Disclaimer: I am not involved in this project at all, I am just spreading the word about it. I will probably (unfortunately) not attend any of the meet-ups.

Zotte Zaterdag

Zotte Zaterdag (literally: Crazy Saturday) is something organised by MNM, a Flemish radio station.
Basically, you have to organise / do something crazy to make people smile and make the world a better place. Yup.

Anyway. You all know the Where We Are Tour is not coming to Belgium (sad face). I was thinking we could do a little something to let the boys / management know we love the boys a lot and we want them to come back soon.
My 'plan' for THIS SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 28TH
  • take a post-it
  • write down "Belgium ♥ One Direction" and / or (on another post-it) "dear One Direction, please come back soon. Belgium misses you"
  • put the post-it somewhere (on the window, in a book, somewhere on the street, ... whatever!)
  • take a picture
  • post it on Twitter (/ Instagram)
  • use the hashtag #crazy1DBE (and the official hashtag #zottezaterdag)
  • tag the boys, Sony, Live Nation, ...
This action might not get the boys here, but we will at least show them / management that we are not just letting them skip our country.
So yeah. Who's in?

I will also be giving away some posters to people that take part in this, because it's my 2nd Twitter birthday. Maybe that'll convince you to take part ;)

* I know Zotte Zaterdag is actually a Flemish thing, but why not use it to unite as a Belgian family? :)

1D World Belgium

1D World comes to Belgium!

The 1D World Merch team have announced that Belgium will get its first and so far only 1D World this summer. For those who don't know what 1D World is, it's a pop-up store where you can buy all things One Direction. Posters, books, CD's, hoodies, cartboard cut outs, dolls, stickers, pens, necklaces, bracelets, name it and you can find it there.

In Belgium, the store will be located in the Waasland Shopping Centre, Sint-Niklaas, 20 minutes from Antwerp, 30 minutes from Ghent, and about 45 minutes from Brussels. The exact address (for everyone with a GPS) is Kapelstraat 100, Sint-Niklaas. For a map, click here.

As it's a pop-up store, it won't be there for a very long time. The store opens August 16th, which is a Friday, and disappears after September 7th, which is a Saturday. On August 16th, there's a VIP-opening at 09:30 and 'normal' fans can come visit it from 10:00 that day. Waasland Shopping Center is open from 10:00 till 22:00 from Monday till Saturday.

Besides One Direction merchandise, there will also be a number of competitions and a One Direction karaoke. The store is definitely worth a visit, even if you won't buy anything :)

For the latest news, follow me on @1DupdatesBE, follow @1dworldmerch and look out for the hashtag #1DWorldBelgium.

1D camp Belgium

[This is for Flemish Directioners only, so I'm going to write in Dutch, sorry]

#1DDIY: frame your ticket

After a long time, I finally felt like updating my blog again. However, it's not gonna be a post full of recent pictures of the boys, it's gonna be a DIY.
My room was an absolute mess during the last month (blame the exams) and I finally found time to clean it. While cleaning, I discovered that I didn't have a safe place for my One Direction ticket. It just lay on my desk, ready to be destroyed once I had forgotten it was there. My tour ticket means a lot to me and I thought about a way to keep it nice and at the same time display it somewhere in my room. The solution: framing it.
It's a very simple DIY, but I thought I'd share it with you in case you don't know what to do with your ticket. And because I was bored.

Auf Wiedersehen

Hiiii :)

For the second time in 2 weeks, I have to tell you something you may not like: I'm leaving. (again)
This time I'm going to Germany for a week; 5 days in Berlin and 2 days in 2 other cities (can't remember which, oops).

I'm leaving tomorrow (April 6th) and I'm coming back next Friday (April 12th).

I might have wifi at the hotel, but I have a feeling I won't.
That's why I scheduled some tweets, so you might see them pop up on your timeline, but I won't tweet new rumours, pictures or videos.
I also scheduled some tweets on my update Twitter (@1DTourUpdateBE), so the countdown continues every day!

If you have any questions while I'm away, you can still tweet or mail me. I will check every tweet and every mail the minute I'm back home :)
(And if a miracle happens and I do have wifi, I will check my mails while I'm still in Germany.)

Love,
Nelly
